Rights and Reproductions

All photographic images in the Museum collections are accessible for reproduction and use. A large number of photographs and artifacts are currently available in digital format.  However, many artifact images remain in color transparency and black and white negative format.  Should no negative, transparency or digital file exist for an artifact, the Museum charges new photography fees in addition to the fees for reproduction rights, digital images and the purchasing of prints. There are no fees for personal use of purchased photographs.

The Museum, White House of the Confederacy, and Appomattox (MOC / WHC / APX) is a private, non-profit organization.  We hope to extend every consideration to those wishing to film, tape or photograph the MOC and/or WHC.  However, all filming, videotaping, and photography projects are reviewed individually for relationship to our mission, appropriateness, burden on historical resources, and staff time required.

ALL REQUESTS MUST BE MADE IN WRITING.  Requests may be submitted by email, or by regular mail to The Museum of the Confederacy, attn:  Photographic Collection, 1201 E. Clay Street, Richmond, Virginia 23219
