Every second Wednesday of the month, the Museum of the Confederacy and the Appomattox Court House National Historical Park are partnering to bring the Civil War Sesquicentennial to Appomattox. Each month, a knowledgable speaker will lead a discussion on a topic or event's 150th anniversary. The talks take place at the Museum of the Confederacy-Appomattox.
On February 17, 1864, the Confederate submarine H. L. Hunley made history by sinking the Screw Sloop of War USS Housatonic as it lay off the harbor of Charleston, South Carolina. This, the first submarine to sink an enemy ship, was lost after its success and not found until 1995. It was raised in August, 2000, and is, today, at the Warren Lasch Conservation Center at the old naval base located in North Charleston. Join Public Relations Manager Sam Craghead for this lunchtime talk.
Admission is free, but does not include entrance to the Museum's exhibits.
