Every second Wednesday of the month, the Museum of the Confederacy and the Appomattox Court House National Historical Park are partnering to bring the Civil War Sesquicentennial to Appomattox. Each month, a knowledgable speaker will lead a discussion on a topic or event's 150th anniversary. The talks will take place upstairs at Baine's Books and Coffee.

Transportation by trains had advanced in the years before the Civil War, which allowed for large number of troops to be transported. The system was still hampered with gaps in service, incompatible track gauges and lack of equipment. Join Howard Gregory for this discussion of the importance of railroads during the Civil War.

In this presentation, Susan Polich will focus on what the average women wore during the Civil War time period.  You will see examples of work and every day wear, including underpinnings, and we will describe some of the common women’s clothing practices of the time.  This session is aimed toward the clothing and fashion novice. Cost: Free with Museum admission.

Throughout the Sesquicentennial of the Civil War, the Museum of the Confederacy-Richmond will be hosting a monthly series of talks devoted to a topic or event's 150th anniversary. These talks, normally scheduled for the third Friday of the month, are free for members and Richmond area residents, and are included with Museum admission for all others.

Explore the impact a year of war had on the Confederacy’s capital as it became a city of hospitals and refugees. Learn about the daily struggles of those on the homefront striving to make do in a war torn world.  The tour begins at the Museum of the Confederacy.  Advance reservations required. Mysteries Revealed: Current Uses of Science and Technology in the Museum's Collection 

The Museum of the Confederacy's collections are well-known, but the ongoing research to learn more about them is not. The objects and documents are rife with mysteries still to be solved, and the Museum staff increasingly employs modern techniques to solve them. This talk will discuss the innovative work that has helped reveal the rich stories behind the Museum's artifacts.

The Art of Spinning” is the topic of a program to be presented by Dawn Doss at the Museum of the Confederacy-Appomattox. The program will be presented twice, at 11 AM and 2 PM, Saturday, August 25, 2012, and will last between 30 and 45 minutes each.
