Every second Wednesday of the month, the Museum of the Confederacy and the Appomattox Court House National Historical Park are partnering to bring the Civil War Sesquicentennial to Appomattox. Each month, a knowledgable speaker will lead a discussion on a topic or event's 150th anniversary. The talks will take place upstairs at Baine's Books and Coffee.
During the American Civil War as the Battle of Antietam transpired in Maryland on September 17, 1862 another tragedy occurred just outside of Pittsburgh, PA. The Allegheny Arsenal explosion killed 78 mainly young women and children who worked to help the war effort on the home front. Join Alyssa Holland, Park Guide and Volunteer Coordinator at the Appomattox Court House National Historical Park for a discussion of the events of that day and other arsenals that incurred tragedies during the Civil War.
Admission is free. Lunch will be available for purchase at Baine's Books and Coffee (Outside lunches are not permitted).
