Every second Wednesday of the month, the Museum of the Confederacy and the Appomattox Court House National Historical Park are partnering to bring the Civil War Sesquicentennial to Appomattox. Each month, a knowledgable speaker will lead a discussion on a topic or event's 150th anniversary. The talks will take place upstairs at Baine's Books and Coffee.
With the bloody stalemate at Antietam, Abraham Lincoln finally had victory enough to issue his Emancipation Proclamation. January, 2013 is the 150th Anniversary of the document going into effect. Though the Proclamation did not in itself end slavery, it did change the scope of the War, the goals of the Lincoln Administration, and weakened chances of foreign intervention on the side of the South. Join Will Glasco of the Museum of the Confederacy as he describes the formation of the document, who it involved, and its ramifications.
Admission is free. Lunch will be available for purchase at Baine's Books and Coffee (Outside lunches are not permitted).
