By the time of the Civil War, Valentine’s Day was well-established and celebrated around the world. No one had a greater impact on sending Valentines in the US than Esther Howland, the Mother of the American Valentine. Come hear Linda Lipscomb, Site Director, explain the history of Valentine’s Day and learn through love letters, how romance was not stopped by the War. She’ll also share photographs of some Valentines in the Museum of the Confederacy’s collection. At the conclusion, you are invited to try your hand at making an English-style valentine using paper lace or a German-style valentine with Scherenschnitte. Older children are welcome.
Space is limited. Register by Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013. Contact Josie Butler at jbutler@moc.org or call 855-649-1861 ext 203.
