Museum Director of Collections Robert Hancock oversees this game that gives players a chance to experience a unique perspective on Civil war strategy, tactics, and the art of command using appropriate nineteenth century methods.

The format of the game is:

1. A PowerPoint presentation introduces participants to army organization, staff work, elements of strategy, and how the kriegsspiel will be conducted.

2. Participants are divided into two teams-Union and Confederate, and roles are assigned.

3. A counsel of war is held, where participants work out their strategies as a team. This is often carried over into the lunch break.

4. Teams fight it out the rest of the afternoon until time is called; after which there is a short debriefing period and Q&A.

This event at the Museum of the Confederacy-Appomattox is limited to 20 participants, so reserve your spot early! Cost: $10 for members, $15 for non-members. A box lunch will be provided.

Reserve your spot online, or contact Josie Butler at 855-649-1861 x 203 for more information.
