Throughout the Sesquicentennial of the Civil War, the Museum of the Confederacy-Richmond will be hosting a monthly series of talks devoted to a topic or event's 150th anniversary. These talks, normally scheduled for the third Friday of the month, are free for members and Richmond area residents, and are included with Museum admission for all others.
Christmas of 1864 was the last celebrated in the Confederate States of America, for the nation did not exist the following year. Shortages and hardships affected every Southern family’s ability to observe the holiday season in the usual manner – even the First Family of the Confederacy. Join Curator Cathy Wright as she explores how the occupants of the Confederate White House celebrated the last Christmas of the American Civil War. Bring your lunch to the Museum and commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.
