Girl Scouts will have the opportunity to earn a Discover the Museum of the Confederacy Patch by touring the White House, exploring the Museum’s exhibits, examining the roles of women during the Civil War and they way the differ from those of women today, and participating in crafts and other activities. Celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday by listening to a new story about the Civil War written in the format of Dr. Seuss by Michael Thomas and Dean Knight, staff members of the Museum of the Confederacy. Each child will also receive a coloring activity from the illustrations of the story. The story will be read every hour on the hour and coloring sheets will be available throughout the day. Cost: Included with Museum admission.

Throughout the Sesquicentennial of the Civil War, the Museum of the Confederacy-Richmond will be hosting a monthly series of talks devoted to a topic or event's 150th anniversary. These talks, normally scheduled for the third Friday of the month, are free for members and Richmond area residents, and are included with Museum admission for all others.

In this presentation, Susan Polich will focus on what the average women wore during the Civil War time period.  You will see examples of work and every day wear, including underpinnings, and we will describe some of the common women’s clothing practices of the time.  This session is aimed toward the clothing and fashion novice. Cost: Free with Museum admission.

Every second Wednesday of the month, the Museum of the Confederacy and the Appomattox Court House National Historical Park are partnering to bring the Civil War Sesquicentennial to Appomattox. Each month, a knowledgable speaker will lead a discussion on a topic or event's 150th anniversary. The talks will take place upstairs at Baine's Books and Coffee.

The friendly and knowledgeable Anctil family is enthusiastic to present visitors with wines from the Sans Soucy portfolio. The vines include a combination of Bordeaux, Alsatian, and Rhone varietals with a few experimental rows planted to discover what might yield the best results. A former tobacco farm, the vineyard area was chosen for its gentle hillside slope. Effort was put into achieving an ideal soil composition to promote healthy vine growth prior to planting.

Join Museum of the Confederacy guide Michael J. Thomas for this lecture on the Confederacy’s Irish troops. The talk will cover Irish immigrant life in the South in the years leading up to the War and then will describe the common Irish soldier’s role in the Confederate Army. Cathy Wright, Curator at the Museum of the Confederacy and editor of "Lee’s Last Casualty," will lecture about the poignant letters written by a young Virginia soldier who was torn between his sense of duty to his family and farm and his sense of loyalty to the Confederacy. Refreshments will be served at 6:30 pm and the lecture will begin at 7:00 pm. Cost: Free for Museum members, $5.00 for non-members.
